Advent Meditation in St. Stephen's Cathedral
An Off-Space For Restoring The Soul

Every evening, precisely at the onset of dusk, St. Stephen’s Cathedral is bathed in a very special light that transforms a portion of the building’s newly renovated west facade into a spectacular work of art in color and light, creating a quiet atmosphere of calm amid the hustle and bustle of the holidays. The serenity extends into the cathedral’s interior with meditations for the Advent season featuring poetic light and meditative musical selections designed to allow visitors to escape from Christmas stress and relax. Our cathedral, at once ancient and new, has become an off-space for restoring the soul.

Light Meditation Instead Of Seasonal Depression

From Monday, December 5 through Sunday, December 18, the Cathedral and its musical partner (Dommusik) invite you to Advent meditations, daily (Sunday through Thursday) from 8—9 PM, visitors can find refreshment in light at the Chromotopia St. Stephen—a poetic work of light, music and quiet. Here you can rejuvenate, restore energy drained by the rigors of the daily routine—especially during the holiday season and the seasonal depression often associated with winter.
In the words of light artist Victoria Coeln, “Light is as precious as time. To look at light is to receive the gift of time.”
